Library types
Koha for every type of library
A school with one librarian, a college preparing for accreditation, a university with faculty libraries, a public library selling memberships: Koha is set up for the way yours works, then hosted, supported and taught to your staff online.

What we hear
The problems libraries bring us when nothing fits
“Every library system we looked at was built for a different kind of library than ours.”
“We pay for modules we never use, and the one we need is an extra.”
“A school with one librarian and a university with forty staff are sold the same setup.”
“Nobody asked how our library actually works before quoting.”
By type of library
Koha for your kind of library
Each page covers what that kind of library needs, the problems we see most, and how we set Koha up for it.
Koha for schools
Koha for primary and secondary school libraries: issue and return with a barcode scanner, a catalogue students search from home or a phone, and nothing to install or look after. Most school libraries are run by one person, so we keep it simple.
Koha for schoolsKoha for colleges
Koha for degree, community, nursing, medical, engineering and teacher-training colleges: an online catalogue students search from anywhere, circulation with barcodes, an accession register that keeps itself, and the reports an accreditation visit asks for.
Koha for collegesKoha for universities
Koha for universities with a central library, faculty and department libraries and more than one campus: one catalogue, acquisitions against real budgets, journals, theses and self-check, hosted and upgraded by us so your IT team does not have to.
Koha for universitiesKoha for public libraries
Koha for public, community, welfare, municipal and subscription libraries: memberships of any length sold and tracked, a gate register that counts itself, family cards, lending beyond books, holds between branches and self-check, hosted and supported so your staff can look after readers.
Koha for public librariesKoha for manuscript libraries
For heritage, religious, family, waqf and research libraries whose treasures are not ordinary books: manuscripts, rare printed books, documents, coins and artefacts, described the way a scholar needs and shown online with photographs, next to the library’s ordinary catalogue.
Koha for manuscript librariesKoha for medical & nursing libraries
Koha for medical, nursing, dental, pharmacy and allied-health colleges and hospital libraries: catalogued with MeSH, journals checked in and chased, textbooks on short loan, anatomy models lent like books, and the reports an inspection asks for.
Koha for medical & nursing librariesKoha for special libraries
Koha for special libraries: a law firm’s library, a company knowledge centre, a research institute, a ministry or an NGO resource centre. Usually one or two people serving a whole organisation, so it is hosted, simple to run, and shows what the library is worth.
Koha for special librariesKoha for international schools
For international schools anywhere in the world: one catalog for the books in every language your families read, students and parents who use it from home, and a system that does not depend on the librarian who set it up staying.

AI built into Koha Cloud
Advanced library automation, with an AI assistant for your staff and readers
Koha Cloud is more than hosting. On any plan, your library can add an AI assistant inside the librarian panel that catalogues, audits and reports alongside your staff. Write to it in your own language, whether English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Urdu, Hindi or Chinese, and it answers in the same language. It proposes; a librarian approves every change.
Copy cataloguing from every source
Give it an ISBN or a title. It searches your own Z39.50 and SRU servers in the order you rank them, then Google Books and Open Library, and brings back the 10 best matches, each labelled with its source. You pick one; the record is drafted for you to confirm.
DDC numbers and author marks
Suggests a Dewey number and a Cutter-style author mark worked out from cataloguing rules and your library’s own convention, for one book or every record missing one. A librarian approves each change.
Catalogue health score
40 checks rolled into one score out of 100: missing marks, invalid ISBNs, likely duplicates, records with no copies. It ranks the worst problems first, tracks the score over time, and fixes them in reviewed batches.
Stock audits and registers
Accession register, stocktake summary, missing items, item history, holdings as of any date and reconciliation, asked for in a sentence instead of built as a report.
Reports on request
Most-borrowed titles, dormant stock, overdues, fines, branch comparisons: 28 ready reports, asked as a question and saved for next time.
Patrons search in plain words
On your public catalogue a reader can type “books on climate change in Urdu published after 2015” or “Agatha Christie novels on the shelf right now”, and the AI turns it into a catalogue search with the right filters.
The same assistant also runs the circulation desk, acquisitions, patron registration, labels and your library's public website by chat, within each staff member's own permissions.
FAQ
What libraries ask us
Is Koha suitable for our kind of library?
Koha runs school libraries with one librarian and universities with dozens of branches, public libraries, colleges and special libraries. The difference is in how it is set up: member types, loan rules, reports and the screens your staff see. We set it up for yours and switch off what you do not need.
Do we pay for modules we do not use?
No. Koha Cloud's Basic plan includes circulation, cataloguing, the online catalogue, reports and staff training. Larger libraries with acquisitions, journals or many branches get a written quote for what they actually use.
Can you move us from the system we use today?
Yes. From another library system, a spreadsheet or a paper register, with a test load and a reconciliation report before you switch, so you can see that every record arrived.
